Pound Farmstead, Wiltshire

Pound Farmstead comprises a collection of Grade II listed redundant farm buildings set within the rural landscape of Wiltshire. Historically, the farm supported one of the largest dairy herds in the county; however, following the decline of the dairy industry, the buildings have gradually fallen out of use and have been left to deteriorate.

The existing buildings will be sensitively adapted to retain and celebrate the site’s agricultural heritage while introducing new and viable uses. Through thoughtful design and the sustainable reuse of the historic structures, the development will establish a long-term future for the farmstead, ensuring its continued care, relevance, and contribution to the surrounding community.

The proposal introduces a diverse mix of uses, each carefully considered to support and strengthen the wider site. Flexible workshop spaces will be created to support local artists, makers, and small-scale enterprises. These spaces will accommodate a variety of creative and commercial activities, from sculptors and woodworkers to emerging local businesses. The workshops will sit within a landscape of green fields and landscaped gardens, forming an environment that encourages creativity, productivity, and sustainable rural enterprise.

Alongside the workshops and studios, an open-plan multi-purpose event space will be introduced. This space will provide opportunities for exhibitions, community gatherings, workshops, and small events, further enhancing the social and cultural life of the farmstead.

The smaller barns will be converted into holiday accommodation. The surrounding area is popular with walkers, cyclists, and visitors, and the provision of self-catering cottage-style accommodation will support this existing tourism activity. The accommodation will also be used by artists and makers working on site, creating flexible live–work opportunities that support the creative community within the wider farmstead.
